(The Hash for Drinkers with a
Running Problem)
- INTRODUCTION -
Episkopi Hash House Harriers
Hashing is a noble sport in which two or three persons (hares) lay a trail of shredded paper (trash) through the scrub and rugged terrain known in Cyprus as the bondhu.
A larger group of runners (hashers) set out later to find this trail and follow it for about an hour despite its devious false trails, loops and checkpoints. When the next leg of a trail is spotted, the hashers regroup on hearing the cry "On On!" or the call of a hunting horn.
Eventually, tired and thirsty in the heat, they return to the cool boxes at the "RV" for refreshments. The apres-hash banter and the critique (crit) by the "'On President" are as much a part of the ritual as the run itself.

Hashing owes its modern origins to Alberto Esteban Ignacio Gispert, an expatriate living in a bachelors' mess in Kuala Lumpur in 1938 who persuaded his fellow diners in the Selangor "Hash House" to join him in the first recorded run. Today over 2000 Hashes span the globe.
The Episkopi Hash or "Epi H3" was founded on 13 November 1967 and held its 2000th run on 1 May 2004. It is a club for gentlemen and hashes take place on Tuesday afternoons (and regular weekends) all the year round.

Visiting hashers are always made welcome, and at weekend "thrashes", ladies (Harriettes) and children (Pups) are included.
Our current 'On President' is Dennis Mercer.
